Background

Background

The "Greenshooting Carbon Calculator for Film and TV Productions" considers not only CO2 but also all other greenhouse gases of the Kyoto Protocol1. For better comparability, these are converted into CO2 equivalents (CO2e) according to their global warming potential in relation to CO2.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) regularly provides a list of revised conversion factors. The factors used in the Carbon Calculator come from the 4th Assessment Report2.

The factors used to calculate greenhouse gas emissions change over time. For this reason, the data you collect is assigned to a reference period with the corresponding valid factors. The assignment is made via the production year of the film and TV production. The factors always refer to the latest scientific findings, which KlimAktiv gGmbH determines and enters into the Carbon Calculator.

Development

The development of the Greenshooting Carbon Calculator was initiated by MFG Medien- und Filmgesellschaft and commissioned from KlimAktiv. The development took place in cooperation with SWR.
